Anecdote*When John and Catherine Greiner arrived in Detroit, Michigan Territory with their four boys, it was during a cholera epidemic. They were taken about seven miles outside of the city to live near other immigrants from Alsace-Lorraine and Hesse-Nassau. There they purchased farmland across the road from the log "Chapel in the Woods" on the Fort Gratiot Turnpike.
